First “Wishes of Hope” Granted to Local Child Completing Cancer Treatment

Southeast Cancer Support Services (SCSS) is proud to announce the granting of the very first Wishes of Hope wish, a new initiative created to support local children and families who have been deeply impacted by cancer. The inaugural wish was granted to Hannah, a two year-old from Southeast Manitoba who was diagnosed with cancer at just one year old.

Hannah spent more than a year in treatment and an extensive surgery at Sick Childrens’ in Toronto, a journey that brought significant emotional and financial strain to her parents and her four older siblings. Now, with treatment completed and Hannah growing stronger each day, the family was given the chance to experience something they desperately needed—time together to rest, reconnect, and make joyful memories.

With the support of generous community partners, SCSS treated the family to a short getaway in Grand Forks. The family stayed at Canad Inns, enjoying a beautiful family suite and full access to the waterpark, generously donated by Canad Inns. SCSS also provided gift cards to help with fuel and meals, allowing the family to fully enjoy their time away without additional stress.

Hannah’s parents, Andreas and Nelli, expressed deep gratitude for the experience, sharing: “A big thanks to all the sponsors that made this trip happen! This trip was a blast for our family and we really enjoyed it. It meant a lot to us! Especially after being through such a hard and tough year with our daughter, we felt the warmth and love from people that really cared and gave this gift to Hannah and our whole family.”

This meaningful wish was made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of Canad Inns Grand Forks, Dynamic Chiropractic, Loewen Body Shop, Rob Friesen, South East Travel, RE/MAX.

“We are thrilled to see our Wishes of Hope program come to life in such a meaningful way,” Cindi Rempel Patrick, Executive Director of SCSS. “Hannah’s story is one of strength, courage, and resilience. Providing her family with a chance to create new, positive memories is exactly why this program exists.”

SCSS extends heartfelt thanks to all sponsors and supporters who helped make this first wish a reality. The organization plans to continue granting wishes to local families facing cancer, ensuring hope, comfort, and moments of joy remain possible even in the most difficult times.
