Southeast Cancer Support Services (SCSS) is pleased to announce it received a $9,120 grant from the Steinbach Community Foundation to develop a specialized database system that will strengthen the organization’s ability to support individuals and families facing cancer across Southeast Manitoba.

The new system will securely manage information on clients, volunteers, donors, and sponsors, while also allowing SCSS to compile important statistics that help identify emerging needs in the region. The database was designed by a local Steinbach computer programmer specifically for the organization, with the goal of reducing time spent on administrative tasks so staff and volunteers can focus more on delivering vital support programs.

SCSS provides a range of services for individuals and families navigating a cancer journey, including transportation to treatments and appointments, assistance with parking and accommodations when required, support groups for patients, survivors, and caregivers, head coverings, medical supplies, wellness programs, and palliative care resources.

“We are very grateful for this support, as we are a unique and multi-faceted organization so a custom designed database program will compile and track essential information on our clients, volunteers, donors, sponsors, and transactions in one searchable database,” says Cindi Rempel Patrick, Executive Director of SCSS. “Working with the Steinbach Community Foundation has been a very positive experience.”

The Steinbach Community Foundation invests monetary gifts in endowment funds and distributes a portion of the earned income each year through grants. The foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of community life by funding local initiatives that support social services, health and well-being, heritage, sport and recreation, arts and culture, child welfare and family well-being, education, environmental needs, and other priorities throughout Southeast Manitoba.

Through this investment, SCSS will be better equipped to understand community needs, strengthen programs, and continue providing compassionate support to individuals and families affected by cancer.
