Crystal Adolphe came to SCSS with nearly 20 years of experience in marketing and administration. She lives in the RM of Stuartburn with her husband and together, they have 8 adult children and 4 grand children.
Crystal has lost many loved ones to cancer over the years including a partner, family members and friends. Having experienced the cancer journey as a caregiver, she understands the toll it can take on a family. Joining SCSS gives her a chance to help relieve some of that stress for others and she looks forward to working alongside Cindi and the board as they build this valuable community resource!

Dr. Maria Krentz
Secretary, Health Services Specialist
Dr. Maria Corvinelli Krentz is a Health Services Specialist. She was born in Italy, immigrated to Toronto as a child, and almost 40 years ago relocated to Manitoba. She and her husband Perry live on a small farm in the RM of Hanover. For more than 45 years, she worked as a Registered Nurse (RN). Her roles included providing direct patient care, leading, managing, educating, and researching. She practiced in acute care (including the cancer unit at Bethesda Hospital), in community, and in long term care. She is now retired from nursing but continues to be involved on a national professional nursing committee. Working on committees and volunteering have been the norm throughout her life.
Maria was recruited to the SCSS board in November 2023 by its founder, Irene Maendel. Being aware of the challenges people with a cancer diagnosis face in accessing care and having lost her brother 2 years ago to cancer, contributing to this cause resonated with her.
Fundraising, Educator
Trina Wall is an educator and has been teaching for more than 32 years. She has been a resident in the community for 17 years together with her husband of 31 years and their 3 adult children.
Giving back by volunteering has been a part of Trina’s life since a young age. She has volunteered in many areas over the years including hospitals, her local church, schools, coaching, canvassing for MS for 10 years, Grey Cup Festivals, The Canada Summer Games, CCMB Foundation, HSC Foundation, and as a Winnipeg Blue Bomber Fan Ambassador to name a few.
After receiving treatment at CancerCare in Bethesda Hospital, Trina wanted to find ways to give back locally. That’s when she found SCSS! Trina is looking forward to helping with fundraising endeavors and events which in turn will benefit others with the resources they need on their journey.
Treasurer, Psychotherapist
Irene Maendel, MA, BSW, CCC, is the visionary behind Southeast Cancer Support Services. To address the barriers faced by patients and their families, she advocated and collaborated with stakeholders to create a not-for-profit entity in 2017. Her leadership and commitment led to the establishment of a dynamic founding board of SCSS in 2023.
Irene currently works as a Clinical Specialist with Shared Health Manitoba and CBTm Hub. She is a psychotherapist, and a mental health consultant in private practice. She holds a Master’s degree in Applied Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.
Director, Oncology Nurse
Bev Dueck is a registered nurse with 16 years of experience working at the Bethesda Community Cancer Care unit. She has seen first hand the toll of a cancer diagnosis and its treatment, as well as the incredible bravery and resilience that people possess. She realizes how important practical support can be and what some kindness can mean on a cancer journey.
She is grateful for the opportunity to be part of Southeast Cancer Support Services, to help make practical support available for people in this region.
