‘Beauty, Bikes & Bellinis for Cancer’ Fundraiser Raises over $10,000 for Cancer Support!

It was an amazing night – with incredible experiences and community caring all wrapped up in one event!

Over 100 participants came out to support Southeast Cancer Support Services to assist cancer patients and their families from over 88 communities in southeastern Manitoba. It was an eclectic array of local businesses and services melding together to create a very unique experience and raising an outstanding $10,185.00!

Smitty’s banquet hall was filled with 21 bikes and riders with Warehouse Cycle Studio leading the sessions, massage tables with staff from SKIN clinics offering mini facials to participants, Smitty’s staff serving Bellinis after each spin, Supplement King providing energy drink samples, and many donated prizes from local businesses. The evening began with a Mini Spin, where cancer survivors and caregivers were honored for their journeys. Following that, Warehouse Cycle Studio led the way with another 5 sold out spin classes of enthusiastic riders. The energy in the room was electric!

Featured cancer survivors shared their story during the cool down session of each spin class. From a high sense of activity and energy, the room would become silent with attention and emotion, as each survivor shared their story. They touched everyone present, creating awareness of how challenging the cancer journey is, not just for the patient but for each family member who lives within that same environment. It was also inspiring as these were all survivors – the ones who made it through and were present to share their gratitude with everyone in the hall. They all attributed their healing to many aspects from their faith, to their support villages, and to the assistance the cancer care community provided them. These were crucial services to encourage their desire for hope and healing.

“We are still in shock”, said Cindi Rempel Patrick, executive director of SCSS, “as we just opened our office doors, and are new to this region in offering these services and programs, and along comes this generous opportunity that infused over $10,000 into our cause, in just one night! This event was a collaboration of completely different business sectors. We were honored to be part of this team and watch how creatively they collaborated in their own disciplines to come together for this cause with enormous success. This was truly unique, and emphasized how anything can be possible with businesses who care, and the community who supports these efforts.”

The funds raised will be used to transport patients from the 88 communities across southern Manitoba to their treatments, assist with parking fees and other incidentals that are not covered through the medical system. It also allows us to run support groups, wellness programs, offer head coverings, assist with lymphedema treatments to name just a few others. There are many needs of cancer patients, and this money will be available for those needs. Cancer Connect is an example of a support group for patients in treatment at this time, and is running Tuesday afternoons in November. There is no cost, and patients may register by calling our office at 204-326-8571.
