My name is Vendy. I am a wife, a mother of two (ages 11 and 13) and I am a breast cancer survivor. Through my cancer journey, I quickly learned that cancer brings on every emotion you can imagine.
My journey started in March 2022 when I felt a lump. I spoke to my doctor but my concerns were dismissed because I was too young and had no family history of cancer. I left that appointment with a gut feeling that something was wrong and the lump was still here.
I decided to push for answers so I sought out a second opinion and kept advocating for myself. Finally, in December of 2022, tests confirmed what I had feared. After undergoing chemotherapy and surgery, I was thankfully declared cancer free in August of 2023!
My advice to anyone facing the cancer journey: if something does not feel right, speak up! Advocate for yourself! Don’t be afraid to ask for a second opinion, it could save your life. – Vendy Sarrasin, Cancer Survivor and SCSS Volunteer
