Whether it’s a dream experience, a favourite toy, or a chance to meet a hero, Wishes for Hope brings joy, comfort, and lasting memories to brave young fighters and their families during a difficult journey.
Eligibility Criteria
Before submitting a referral, please review the following eligibility requirements:
- Age & Location: Children between the ages of 3–17 living in the southeastern Manitoba region served by Southeast Cancer Support Services (SCSS).
- Diagnosis: Active cancer diagnosis.
- Previous Wishes: The child must not have received a wish from any other wish-granting organization.
- Who Can Refer: Referrals may be made by anyone, with prior approval of the family involved. They cannot be made anonymously.

For children facing cancer, the journey is filled with hospital visits, treatments, and uncertainty. A granted wish isn’t just a moment of joy—it’s a powerful emotional boost that can have lasting effects.
Emotionally, a wish gives a child something to look forward to, restoring hope, joy, and a sense of control during a time when so much feels out of their hands. It lifts spirits, reduces anxiety, and strengthens resilience—not just for the child, but for the entire family.
Physically, studies have shown that positive emotional experiences can help reduce stress, improve sleep, and even support treatment outcomes. When a child feels happier and more hopeful, their body often responds in kind.

Every child’s wish is unique—just like their journey. Wishes for Hope offers meaningful, personalized wishes that bring joy, comfort, and relief during a challenging time. Examples of wishes may include:
- Adventures & Excursions – A fun day out at a favorite attraction or special experience with the family. (limited travel, upon approval)
- A Favorite Toy or Tech – From gaming systems to cozy stuffies, we bring smiles with the things they love most.
- Meet a Hero or Celebrity – A chance to meet someone they admire and create unforgettable memories.
- Events and Sports – Enjoy a sporting event, concert or production.
- Bedroom Makeover – Transforming their space into a place of peace, play, or healing.
- Comfort & Care Items – Equipment or supplies that make daily life with cancer a little easier.
We work closely with families to create a wish that offers hope and happiness to their child.
How the Wish Process Works
Each Wishes for Hope referral is reviewed individually by a committee to ensure the wish is meaningful, appropriate, and achievable. We work closely with the child and their family to bring their wish to life in a way that’s safe, special, and tailored to their needs.
Wishes are granted based on available funds and resources, so while we aim to fulfill as many wishes as possible, our ability to do so depends on the generous support of our community.
